Not EVERY Pokemon needs a mega of course, but giving them to Megas, and various underpowered Pokemon, would have been wonderful. Plus it feels awkward as only the Gen 1 and Gen 3 starters have Megas and none of the other ones do.

Most people feel bummed because Megas had a lot of potential to really reinvigorate the meta and give old Pokemon a chance to shine.

From mismatched color schemes, to simply unpleasing color palettes, we’ve always wondered why some older shiny Pokémon look the way they do. It would've been so cool to see new Megas for Pokemon based on the Sun (Sunflora becomes Grass/Fire, and other Pokemon get a sun motif) and the Moon (Noctowl becomes a starry dark hunter, and other Pokemon get a moon motif), but alas, no new Megas. Shiny Pokémon are coveted collector items both in Pokemon GO and in the core game series, however it can’t be denied that shiny sprites of some Pokémon look rather bad. Gen 7 marked a huge attempt to shy away from Megas - from unceremoniously dumping Megas into the postgame to having terrible and depressing Pokedex entries that describe Mega Evolutions as a horrible and terrifying ordeal to Pokemon (instead of it being a bond between Pokemon and trainer)Ī lot of people are still salty about the lack of new Megas in SM and any lore building about Megas in SM and now SWSH. will ever get a second evolution because of their Mega forms.Ī LOT of people complained that Megas were only available to specific Pokemon and not all of them, which is why Z-Moves and Dynamax were marketed as gimmicks that would be available to ALL Pokemon, and not just some. Some people complained that Megas now locked certain Pokemon out of evolutions - now it's unlikely Mawile, Sableye, etc. The only problem is that it gave a second wind to already good Pokemon (Metagross, Salamence, Rayquaza, etc.) that ultimately broke the metagame / the Mega could've gone to elsewhereĪ lot of people complained that Megas only widened the gap between good and bad Pokemon - as the last point stands, some Pokemon just got way too good and Pokemon that were already bad got even more outclassed. Megas were a great way of breathing life into terrible Pokemon (Beedrill, Pidgeot, Lopunny, Mawile, etc.). But the main reasons I can think of why Megas are going away is because: Most people are really bummed out about the lack of Mega Evolutions.
